Ever since it was first announced, Ubuntu One has drawn comparisons to Dropbox. With cross-platform desktop apps and mobile versions for iOS, Android, and Blackberry, Dropbox has a bit of an edge. A Ubuntu One Windows app has been talked about for quite some time, and the Wiki now states that a beta version is coming soon -- which should help close the gap.
There's also the recently-announced Ubuntu One music app, which is currently available for testing on Android. Now branded Ubuntu One Mobile, its cloud-to-device streaming will cost $3.99 per month or $39.99 for a year. Unless I'm reading the blog post incorrectly, that's just to stream your music from the cloud to your phone.
As I pointed out last time, 7digital -- who power the U1 music store -- already provide free apps to stream all the music you purchase at no additional charge. Apps like ZumoCast allow iOS users to do this for free, so I wonder: would you be willing to pay $4 a month just to stream music? I wouldn't.
